The match

On Tuesday 13 October, the Oranje Leeuwinnen played Hungary at the Koning Willem II Stadium. That evening, our tool Fan of the Match was running in the stands. It lets an entire stadium play along at the same time on their phones, and everything the crowd does appears on the big screen. For each match or event you choose which features to use, such as a quiz, polls, a lottery or a fancam that puts fans on the screen themselves. The same tool has been used at EURO 2024 and by clubs like Manchester City and FC Barcelona. This time it was the Dutch fans’ turn.

How the stadium played along

The crowd scanned a QR code on the big screen and could join in straight away. Then fans used the fancam to send in selfies, which together formed an orange collage on the screen. The evening ended with a live quiz that 1,015 fans played at the same time.

Why the KNVB uses it

Every match has moments when not much is happening on the pitch, like before kick-off, at half-time or during an injury break. That’s when the KNVB brings in Fan of the Match, so fans can stay involved with their team in those moments too.
